Fix in Six

What is Fix in Six?

Fix in Six is Guam’s six-year recovery initiative, funded by $500.8 million in HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program in response to Typhoon Mawar.

Typhoon Mawar made landfall on May 24, 2023, as the strongest storm to hit Guam in 20 years, bringing destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and widespread flooding. The storm caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services, especially in northern Guam. It was later ranked among the world’s top ten most powerful storms since 2000.

Led by the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA), Fix in Six aims to address unmet recovery needs through housing assistance, economic revitalization, public infrastructure repairs, and enhanced mitigation efforts aligned with the 2024 Guam Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Fix in Six reflects a focused commitment to help Guam recover stronger and build long-term resilience.

A message from GHURA’s Executive Director:

“The devastation of Typhoon Mawar left deep scars, with hardship felt in every village, reminding us of both the fragility and resilience of our island. The Guam Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program represents a new path forward, providing the tools to help rebuild not just for today, but to prepare us for tomorrow’s challenges. The Fix in Six program is more than just a response to disaster; it is a commitment to the investment in long-term recovery solutions that will help restore homes, strengthen communities, and create lasting solutions that will make Guam safer and stronger. Through this, we are transforming tragedy into opportunity, to deliver a stronger and fortified Guam.”
